Installing a Harken Small Boat Furling System allows the dinghy sailor, or trailerable cruising sailor, to set and furl the jib from the cockpit.
The furling drums and halyard swivels of these furling systems feature multiple stacked races of Delrin® or Torlon® bearings to ensure smooth rotation under load. These Small Boat Furlers are for furling only, not reefing.
All small boat furling systems require a jib with a luff wire properly seized to the sail.
If the Small Boat Furler is purchased as a kit comprised of an upper swivel and drum (Harken #s 434, 435, or 436), the forestay must be removed to lower the sail.
The optional Hoistable Halyard Swivel can be installed on your headstay so you can raise or lower the sail without removing the headstay. The Halyard Swivel is independent of the headstay, allowing you to tension the luff separately from the mast rake.
The #483 Small Boat Furler Kit includes a hoistable halyard swivel along with the drum and upper swivel.
