For use with square-top mainsails with asymmetical, angled top battens.
This gate is a section of removable track which is installed as part of the original mast track installation such that it is just above the lowered mainsail.
When the square-top mainsail is lowered to the boom and the gate is removed, the headboard slider and angled top batten slider (which makes the upper section of the mainsail stick up at an angle above the boom) can be slid off the now open-end track to make it easier to “tie” the mainsail to the boom. This, effectively, lowers the profile of the doused main, and also provides a more horizontal surface over which to secure a sail tie.
When it is time to raise the mainsail, the top batten slider and headboard slider are reinstalled on the track, and the gate section replaced on the mast...allowing the mainsail to be raised.
When removed, the gate section is kept from getting misplaced by the attached lanyard.
NOTE - Removable gates are not to be used with carbon track.
